Hyper 8 - Engine Mounting
The engine is there. We need it in order to make the car move. What else can we use it for?
The engine is a significant part of a cars mass. By moving it as far backwards as possible the weight distribution can be improved.
By moving it to the side, the balance of the car can be improved. The offset engine counterweighs the offset driver. In this case a driver sitting on the left side, hence, the engine is moved to the right.
An engine block is quite rigid. By integrating the engine with the chassis a lot of rigidity is gained for free.
The sturdy rubber mountings are no longer needed. Weight reduction. (We like that.)
A rigid engine mounting also eliminates the live weight of an engine rocking back and forth. This does wonders for the handling of the car.
